Sail the Book is currently under construction.  Instructional content consisting of Google Earth tours and linked activities will be available in early 2013.  Please check back often.

Welcome to our project.  I am a high school science teacher.  Seven years ago I participated in a teacher at SEA program. The six week course focused on oceanography, pedagogy and sailing a tall ship out of Woods Hole, Massachusetts.  When I was not on watch, I scanned the ship's galley and found a wealth of excellent sea-books.  The combination of my adventure and reading about great adventures past,  inspired me to create a literature-based marine science course.   Over the past two years I have added a technology component to the books.  I believe, and have observed, when the books are presented with Google Earth the students are able to have a richer experience.  The combination of text, imagery and activities stimulates the reader in a multidisciplinary manner. The stories resonate with the reader.  It is my hope that this project will keep classic maritime literature fresh and reach an audience that might otherwise have overlooked this material   The books that will appear on this site are first hand accounts of places and times that are an invaluable source of history, science and nature.
