Project FAQ's

Will you cover any additional books?
Any intentions of future books will be announced in the "News" section. If you have recommendations please let us know.

I would like to use the KMZ in my own project, can I do this?
Yes,  However please contact us with your plans before proceeding.

Would you include my activities into the project?
Send us your ideas, and if possible, they will be included in the linked activities.

How did you come up with the book list?
The books were chosen from the FORSEA Institute of Marine Science, books that inspire marine biology.

How many Points of Interest (POI's) do the books contain?
It varies.  "The Voyage of the Beagle" is the most complex work with 314 POIs.  "Sailing Alone Around the World" and "Two Years Before the Mast" are about 220 POIs.  "In the South Seas" and "The Cruise of the Snark" contain just over 100 POIs.

How many POI's are there per chapter?
It ranges from a single POI to over twenty depending on the content.

Does the entire book appear in the info windows?
I tried as much as possible to include entire books.  The only book that has significant parts removed is "The Voyage of the Beagle".  I felt that certain technical sections and descriptions of places, not visited during the voyage, made the tours too cumbersome and might bog down the reader.  As with all the books, the table of contents is linked to the complete text.

Is it possible to know the books, chapters and activities that would complement my classroom curriculum?
Once several chapter tours are out, there will be posts directing teachers to content specific resources.  I hope to link the passages and activities to the common core and next generation science standards.

What's with that logo?
I must admit I'm not a graphic artist.  I thought it would be nice to take a book and make the pages look like ocean waves and make the sails be the book covers and put pennants of our nations on the masts with an Earth pennant in the middle.  I'll stick to teaching.

Why don't the KMZ chapter tours work well on my iPad?
It seems that the version of Google Earth for iPads is not as robust as for other devices. Therefore the text windows, layers and tours do not run as intended.
